Reopening Blue Lagoon Iceland

We carefully reopened the Blue Lagoon, Silica Hotel, the Retreat, and our restaurants on June 19.

Since the beginning, Blue Lagoon Iceland has been a tranquil escape in the Arctic, committed to providing guests with a realm of relaxation and allowing for the effects of time to be undone. And while it might feel a bit different than it did before, our commitment to providing you with an unparalleled experience remains the same. As you know, Iceland reopened on June 15. We followed suit and carefully reopened the Blue Lagoon, Silica Hotel, the Retreat, and our restaurants on June 19. While things continue to evolve with the pandemic, and we all move forward and reemerge in this “new” world, you will undoubtedly have questions regarding your travel plans to Blue Lagoon Iceland. That’s why we launched our new Book 2020 with Freedom policy, which provides increased flexibility, the information you need to make informed decisions, and allows for you to look forward to your vacation penalty free, stress free, and worry free. With Book 2020 with Freedom, all individual bookings from May 29 to December 31 2020 are 100% refundable until 24 hours before arrival. This applies to all bookings to the Blue Lagoon, Silica Hotel, the Retreat Hotel, and the Retreat Spa in 2020.

Traveling to Iceland during the COVID-19 pandemic Travelers coming to Iceland are now required to fill out a pre-registration form before they leave from their point of departure. While enroute to Iceland, travelers are requested to adhere to personal safety measures—e.g. wearing a mask, washing and sanitizing their hands, and following social distancing guidelines. Upon arrival at Keflavik International Airport, travelers can opt-in for a COVID-19 test. These tests are performed by health care workers in the terminal , and the results are often provided on the same day. Travelers are also required to download and install the official COVID-19 app, Rakning C-19, where information and test results are displayed. Through the app, travelers can also communicate directly with Icelandic health authorities, should they experience any COVID-like symptoms. Within this link there is more information from Iceland’s chief epidemiologist, outlining testing procedures, and what to do should travelers receive positive test results. Additional information can also be found on the official information portal covid.is.

Visiting Blue Lagoon Iceland during the COVID-19 pandemic The Icelandic Health Directorate does not mandate a quarantine while travelers await results from the COVID-19 test. However, our Health & Hygiene Policy asks that our guests respect the 2-meter social distancing guidelines, and regularly wash/disinfect hands. If a guest shows any symptoms, it is imperative to inform the staff immediately. If you have already booked your ticket to the Blue Lagoon and are experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms after you arrive in Iceland, we kindly ask that you postpone your visit to the Blue Lagoon until you have received your test results. Feel free to contact us and we will gladly make the necessary changes to your booking, free of charge. While waiting for test results, hotel guests are welcome at Silica Hotel and the Retreat and will not be required to self-isolate. However, the personal safety measures mentioned above are respectfully encouraged. We also recommend refraining from booking treatments in the Retreat Spa and the Blue Lagoon while waiting for the COVID-19 test results, as it is required for guests to present the results before a treatment can take place. We reserve the right to cancel any treatment if a guest has clear symptoms of COVID-19. In addition, the Icelandic Health Directorate prohibits travelers from using coaches/buses from the airport. Therefore, Destination Blue lagoon will not be running from Keflavik International Airport to the Blue Lagoon until further notice. Blue Lagoon Iceland is closely following public guidelines and instructions from the authorities, and we will respond to matters on a case-by-case basis in a professional and welcoming manner. We are also dedicated to protecting our guests, community, and team, and have implemented our new Health & Hygiene Policies, all of which exceed the regulations mandated by the Icelandic Health Directorate. We hope to see you soon. We look forward to sharing our special part of the world with you.
